Mid Semester Reflections

From the first day of school to the last half of this semester, I think I'm halfway through of writing goals. As I mentioned in my writing goals blog that I want to use less time in writing one essay, I think I nearly achieved that goal. Before writing a blog, I used to spend more than 1-2 hours to finish it, but now I rarely exceed 1-hour on it. However, I still need to improve my grammar structure and vocabulary because I like to use repetitive words and sometimes I'm still confused when using grammar in sentences. Hence, I should study harder on vocabulary, by doing this, I need to find new vocabulary every day whether in a book or social media. Therefore, I can have many word choices to write my essay. For grammar, I wish I can gain as much information and knowledge as possible from grammar lessons in the AC class.

I know it might be an easy success for someone, but for me, I'm really proud of myself. I used to travel to Japan for several times, and every time I ordered food in Japanese restaurants, I'm always used body language or sometimes google translate to order food, which is very edgy when I and the waitress can not understand each other. Thus, this is favourite success so far because in the future if my family comes to Japan, I can order them food by using my Japanese speaking skills.
There are lots of challenges that I have faced in this semester. Since this is my first semester at the university, homesickness is the first thing that hit me very hard. Although there is an internet that I can stay in touch with my parents whenever I want, sometimes I still miss them and my Thai friends. Besides, I also homesick for food, people, and culture as well. Anyway, I really enjoyed my new chapter of life here, in Japan. Another challenge is finding new friends when I first come here, I think it is very difficult to find a friend that has similar interest with me. Therefore, finding new friends is very challenging.

By the end of this semester, I plan to move out of the dormitory and find my own place to live. Secondly, I plan to study more in the Japanese language; my goal is at least to be able to understand their basic conversation. Lastly, I plan to change my major from international relations to business economics because I don't like reading 40-50 pages in a day and it is a very boring and complicated major. In contrast, I really love mathematics because it very challenging and I want to work in a field of business.

  1. I'm happy to hear that you have made progress in your Japanese as well as your writing efficiency.

Do you actively practice and speak Japanese outside of the classroom?

How does the business economics major differ from the international relations major in terms of workload and content?

    1. Yes, I learn to speak Japanese on YouTube, and also practice the listening skill by watching Japanese cartoons, such as Doraemon, Chinjung and Conan. During the cartoon, when I do not understand some words, so I will stop and search for the word.

As I mentioned above, I am interested in mathematics, and international relations major does not have this subject. Moreover, reading many pages of news every day seems to be difficult for me. Besides, international relationship is not the major that I like to learn, because in this term I learned some of the international relations subjects, and I think it does not suit me at all.
