It is widely believed that undergraduate students must participate in the class that been told by the university. Others claim that students are allowed to choose the classes that they are interesting. However, I strongly agree with the second thought.
Advocated of the first view claim that students that have to study in the classes managed by the university will achieve varieties of new information, and it will make students have more opportunities in the future. It makes students analyze things more different due to the high base of knowledge that causes students to see more foresighted. However, if students do not interesting in the classes arranged by the university, for example, some subjects are not suitable for some students because every person has a different dream job and background. Forcing students to attend the classes not only makes them unsatisfied but also causes them to waste all of their valuable time.
Notwithstanding the first view, there are still some people, perhaps a lot of them, who disagree, arguing that students feel free to choose whatever classes they like. This will make them satisfied with the classes because students are able to select the subject that they are interesting to learn and discover. Moreover, Students can eliminate all the subjects that are not relevant to their faculty, it makes students gain the knowledge directly to their future job. Besides, students will work more efficient because they love what they are doing.
To conclude, having considered both views, I am more inclined to side with the second view, which attending the class should be chosen by students. This makes students feel comfortable in the classes that they love, and it will rapidly improve their knowledge and work-life because they appreciate studying the thing that they desire
Tan, your post is more about allowing students to choose their classes, however, the prompt is asking whether or not attendance should be mandatory and a part of the students' grade/assessment. It is try to get at the center of learning.
ReplyDeleteCan learning take place positively outside of the classroom? Is it more conducive for students to attend class so as to expose themselves to other students and receive assistance from the instructor?
Also, you changed your position on the paper at the end. In the beginning you wrote that you "strongly disagree with the second thought" which was referencing that students should be allowed to choose their course. However, at the end you wrote that you were more "inclined to side with that view" even though you disagreed with it at first. Which position do you support?
In my opinion, learning outside is better than learning in the classroom because learning outside has more privacy, and also students can feel free to ask the things that they do not understand. Some students cannot open their hearts to the lecturer because of the atmosphere in the class, students never met each other before so it is hard for students to ask a question because they are nervous, scare, or shy.
DeleteIn the beginning, I wrote strongly agree with the second though. I didn't wrote "strongly disagree".
