I really enjoyed writing a Cause & Effect essay because it helps me improve myself to another level of writing skills. Also, the topic that I chose is what I am interested in, so that is why I am really enjoyed writing it. Writing this essay helps me to explore different kinds of perspective more effectively, which I believe it is a valuable and important skill to have in order to write a clear and concise academic essay in my second and third year and so on.
From what I have seen myself, I think in this essay I did a pretty good job than my previous one, especially my first draft. My organization goes along with my ideas and content, which is better than the comparison essay. Also, I am quite confident in my vocabulary including punctuation and transition words. I think that my skill of cohesive and coherence is improving due to the blog’s homework that has been assigned every week. However, there are still grammar errors, which I have to improve and practice more in order to reduce the mistakes in my next essay.
I believe that I chose a good topic because it is what I am really interested in. Moreover, as I am a Business Economic student, I can better use this essay in the near future when I’ll take an international trade course. Besides, writing this topic also open up my viewpoints of international trade as well, I am now able to understand the effects of foreign trade more profoundly than ever before.

In my opinion, I write a clear outline before I started writing my rough draft. As I mentioned before, I am spending time mostly on brainstorming my ideas and content, which is the outline part. The reason I write a clear outline is that it really reduces the time of my writing when it comes to rough draft because I already organized my ideas of what I am going to put in my essay.
I spend a lot of time in every draft that I wrote, about 2 hours per day, which I actually spend 2-3 days on it. I think writing it all at once is not my type, I usually take multiple writing times on my writing work because I can check it several times before submitting it. I have tried to write it all at once when I am lazy and the result that came out is terrible and embarrassing since then I never did it again.
Peer editor helps me point out some little mistakes that I might overlook such as punctuation and capitalize. He also highlights some part of my essay that I did well, which is a little encouragement for me to continue improving myself.
There are some statements that still not clear and some do not have enough support in my 1st draft. Hence, I have to revise some ideas that still need to be clarified and find more evidence to support my statement. Overall, I mostly make changes to my content.
In my next essay, I will try to improve my content and grammar. I will do my best to have fewer grammar mistakes and build strong support for every idea that I state in the essay. In order to improve these things, I will spend more time finding sources to back up my argument, I will search for more sources including scholarly and non-scholarly sources. For my grammar, I must through roughly review my grammar mistakes before submitting, by doing this, I will use the knowledge from grammar lessons and check it all once again.
Do you think that students should spend more time brainstorming and outlining their paper than writing it?
ReplyDeleteHow important is it for students to research their topic before they begin writing their paper?
Yes, because brainstorming ideas will allow students to write more efficient, and they will not be stuck while writing the body because they know what to write next. For example, in my opinion, when candidates take an IELST writing test; they will have 1 hour to write. Normally, people think that writing before outlining will write faster due to they do not need to waste the time to brainstorm. However, they will be stuck in the middle because they do not know what to write next.
DeleteStudents need to understand what they should write since it will increase the performance on the essay, and they will write even faster. Moreover, researching the topic before writing will allow them to write more accurate and concise supporting ideas and evidence.
