In Thailand, unemployment is a very serious problem. Nowadays, finding a job for a new graduate seems to be difficult because Thai's government has been setting a new law, which allows older people to work until they are 70 years old. Which means that they can work for up to 10 more years until they retire. This is a very serious problem for new graduates who want to work as a civil servant or government officer. However, even the new graduate can find a job from private companies, the salary is very low compared to living expenses in Thailand. As a consequence, this causes a big gap in social inequality between the poor and the rich people.
The reason why there are so many unemployed is that the number of new graduates per year does not correspond to the labor market that is searching for jobs which less than those students ' graduation rates. Job selection is another issue that leads to unemployment, lack of work or wanting to follow the line of study., which can be another reason why new graduates become unemployed. Moreover, the economic conditions in society are changing all the time, leading to significant layoffs by the owners in order to create a stable business. As a result, many people are unemployed.
A high unemployment rate leads to a brain drain. The major causes of "brain-drain" that happened all around the world usually are from unemployment, population explosion, and corrupt political systems.
The government should set a new law for older people to retire from the job at the age of 50. This allows new graduates to have more opportunities to find a job.
Why did the government change the retirement age to 70? This seems like an awfully old age to be working.
ReplyDeleteIs "brain drain" a huge issue in Thailand?
If people are retiring at the age of 50, does this mean that there has to be more jobs available to take care of the older people?
Governments change the retirement age to make older people can still gain money to support themselves. Some middle-aged people in Thailand do not have enough salary to support other people, and the retirement money from the government is not enough to survive. As a consequence, increasing retirement age is the solution to the problem; even though it is hard for old people, but they have no other choices.
DeleteYes, Thailand is the country that has a very low rate of development. Brain drain in Thailand can cause many smart students to migrate to other countries because they know that they can earn more money from some other developed countries than Thailand. As a result, Thailand will have fewer new generation kids that can develop the country in the future.
In my perspective, if people are retiring at age 50. It will provide more jobs to graduate students because the company must require more workers. Besides, government must create a plan to remedy the situation by creating more facilities for the age of 50 people in order to satisfy them. Creating facilities will increase the job hiring rate too.
