Reflection of Argumentative Essay

The biggest challenge in writing the Argumentative essay is the organization part. In order to write a clear and concise argumentative essay, the arrangement of the information is essential. It is very challenging when I have to organize my body paragraph into the TEXAS format. I am not sure that which information belongs to which section of TEXAS format. It looks easy when the teacher shows me the example in the powerpoint, but when it comes to writing my own paper, I think it is really complicated. Therefore, managing my body paragraph into TEXAS format is the most difficult and challenging part. The easiest part of writing this essay would be the introduction part. I think writing a Hook and a thesis statement is quite easy because I have done it several times in the cause-effect and comparison essay. Also, following the teacher's guidelines in the outline section really make it much easier.

Firstly, the most important change that I made is my counter-arguments body paragraph. I made a mistake by combining all my three counter-argument in one paragraph, which is wrong. Therefore, I change it into 1 main point counterargument and give refutation to it. Secondly, I fixed my grammar throughout the paper and check it all once again because there are lots of grammar mistakes in my first draft. Thirdly, I reorganized my body paragraph into TEXAS format because there are many points that I included in the paragraph and it does not belong there. Therefore, I have to reorganize my paper and delete some of the unnecessary information. Finally, I did not mention any counterargument neither in the thesis statement nor the conclusion paragraph in my first draft. Thus, I added my counter-argument in both of the paragraphs.

However, in contrast to my 1st and 2nd essays, I think I did better in organizing my ideas. TEXAS format helps me to organized my paper in more clear and concise ways. I also saw an improvement in grade from my 1st essay to 2nd essay, which really motivated me to write a better essay in the future,
The only thing that I still struggle with when writing an academic essay is to find sources that will support my main arguments. I think it quite difficult to search for academic sources that belong to the statement that I wrote in the paper. Nevertheless, in my next essay, I will research the sources before I choose the topic to write an essay. In this way, I can see that is there will be enough sources to support my essay or not.

Even though I don't know the grade yet, but I think I am satisfied with this paper. I put my effort into every essay that I wrote, including this essay as well. So, I think I could not put more effort into this paper because I did the best as I could, which means that this is the best effort that I can put in my essay. (Is this confusing? hmm)

Although I have written three academic papers, I am still not confident to write a longer one because I still have to improve my grammar, organization, and ideas. However, in this winter vacation, I hope I will have time to practice writing academic essays by myself to prepare for the AC II class.

    1. I think the most important skill that should be carried out to AC II is how to organize an idea into cohesive and coherence sentences. This skill will be beneficial for me when writing an academic paper in AC II class.
